Boat House Grill is located at Dover Landing in Dover,
New Hampshire. Dover Landing served as the center of
Dover's industrial and commercial livelihood for centuries;
from the time of the first gristmill in the 1650's
to the creation of the Dover Navigation
Company in the
1870's. During this time Dover's landing rivaled it's sister-city
Portsmouth in its renown as port of call for ships from
as far away as South Africa and Europe. Ships
150 feet in length with masts 100 feet high were commonly
docked along these wharfs.
In
March of 1896 a massive flood and ensuing fires destroyed
the landing. Dover's "Black Day" forced the closure
of dozens of businesses. Large commercial shipping
interests waned and finally ceased in 1906. Shortly
thereafter, the building the Boathouse is located in
was erected and subsequently used as a horse stable
and storehouse for the coal as part of the Dover
Gas works in the brick building across the street. In
1978 the Maglaras family purchased the building and
converted it to a boat repair facility and marine supply
store. The signature Starboard
Lighthouse was
erected in 1998 as a tribute to the wooden ships and
iron men who contributed to the great maritime history
of the Landing. Now operated as the Castaways Boat
House by
Randy Kilty, the restaurant provides one of the most unique dining experiences
in the New Hampshire Seacoast area.
In season the boathouse is open 7 days a week. We
offer a full menu with a large variety
of delicious appetizers, quality soups and chowders, salads,
sandwiches, seafoods and a selection of mouth-watering
entrees prepared to your liking. A full-service bar and
patio "TIKI Bar" (operating in season) offer
a large selection of beer and wine and can prepare almost
any drink you wish.
We
also offer catering services for your party or event.
